The mission and vision of the TALOS Centre of Excellence in AI for SSH of the University of Crete is to build capacity in AI4SSH and DH by attracting highly talented researchers , fostering collaborations with other centers in AI4 SSH and in DH in Greece and abroad, proposing innovative curricula, and organising conferences, workshops, open courses and seminars for targeted groups, e.g., the academic community, undergraduast and graduate students, women and girls, society at large.

Teacher Academy for AI Literacy

Empowering Educators for the Digital Future

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping our world, bringing transformative opportunities and significant challenges to the field of education. For educators to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape, immediate and effective support is essential.

The European project “Teacher Academy for AI Literacy” has taken on this challenge. Our mission is to equip primary and secondary school teachers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to use AI in a critical, creative, and ethically responsible way.

Why is this Initiative Needed?

Despite the European Commission’s recognition of the importance of AI literacy, a significant gap persists across Europe regarding:

  • Structured guidelines and curricula for teacher professional development in this area.

  • A holistic approach that combines technical knowledge with the crucial humanistic and ethical dimensions of AI.

A Sustainable Academy

Addressing this gap, we are creating a transnational network of collaboration between universities, educational policy bodies, and schools. Through this network, the Teacher Academy for AI Literacy will:

  • Develop specialized training curricula and educational resources, grounded in the European DigComp 2.2 and DigCompEDU frameworks.

  • Implement professional development initiatives for both pre-service and in-service teachers.

  • Empower educators to become:

    • Confident users of AI technologies.

    • Critical evaluators of their capabilities and limitations.

    • Effective facilitators who integrate AI into their teaching practice.

We envision a future where every educator feels prepared to guide their students in the digital world, ensuring that AI is used to promote educational equity, social cohesion, and to actively combat inequalities.
